通常，参数测试系统将电流或电压输入被测器件（DUT），然后测量该器件对于此输入信号的响应。这些信号的路径为：从测试仪通过电缆束至测试头，再通过测试头至探针卡，然后通过探针至芯片上的焊点，到达被测器件，并最后沿原路径返回测试仪器。
无论是全自动探针测试台还是自动探针测试台，x-y向工作台都是其最核心的部分。有数据表明探针测试台的故障中有半数以上是x-y工作台的故障，而工作台故障有许多是对其维护保养不当或盲目调整造成的，所以对工作台的维护与保养就显得尤为重要。本文仅对自动探针测试台x-y工作台的维护与保养作一介绍。
